Principal’s Message

Welcome to our  website! We hope that you will find the information you need and can explore what this great school is about.  The school was founded in 1987 in Meraux, Louisiana. Relocated in 2008 to Covington, Louisiana as a result of Hurricane Katrina, the school continues to embody the vision and spirit of its namesake Archbishop Philip M. Hannan.

Our educational philosophy and mission are grounded on two primary, but essential elements – developing a more intimate relationship with Jesus Christ and encouraging a pursuit of academic and personal excellence. We believe that by challenging and preparing young men and women to grow and develop as Christian leaders in the world around them, our community and our society benefit. Our teachers and coaches are committed to providing every student with the faith and character formation necessary for young men and women at this critical juncture of their lives.

We offer a rigorous college-preparatory curriculum that prepare students for success in college and life. We offer six Advanced Placement classes in addition to over eighteen certified Pre-Advanced Placement Courses in Science, Mathematics and English. Blessed with a faculty and staff of 32 professionals, with an average of 12 years of teaching experience, our students grow and thrive in an academically rigorous environment. This past school year, Archbishop Hannan’s average ACT score exceeded the State and National average across the board.

Excellence is part of the culture of Archbishop Hannan High School. It is not, however, merely excellence for its own sake. An Archbishop Hannan education challenges students to pursue their potential to the fullest, and then to ask themselves the question, “and now what?” Our students understand and accept the responsibilities inherent with living a life centered on the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Our Christian Service program calls them not only to action, but to reflect on the experience and articulate how the experience brought them to a closer relationship with God.

One of the advantages of a liberal arts college preparatory education is that it challenges the student to broaden their world and develop new academic and personal interests. Our students take full advantage of the many opportunities for personal growth with over 88% of our student body participating in at least one of the 40 sports and extracurricular activities offered by the school.  Our athletic teams successfully compete among the best in the district and have won a number of district and state titles.

I hope you enjoy perusing our website, but more importantly, it would be a pleasure to see you walking through the doors of our school soon.

Fr. Charles Latour, O.P.
